Nina Shook Obituary

) WADSWORTH -- Nina Mae (Gardner) Shook , 90, of Wadsworth passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 25, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, reuniting with her beloved late husband, Arnold. Nina was born October 7, 1930 in Wadsworth, Ohio. She was a friend to many and loved by all. She was always ready and willing to help family and friends. When someone called her response would be "What do you need, how can I help?" She graduated with the Wadsworth High School class of 1948 and still frequently met with several of the remaining classmates. She married the love of her life, Arnold Shook, on November 27, 1948. She was a long time member of the Grace Brethren Church in Rittman, Ohio, where she faithfully attended services, Sunday school, C.H.F. bible study, Women of Grace, and special events. Nina was the daughter of the late Heber and Hilda (Long) Gardner who had eleven children and a foster child. She was proud that she was a direct descendant of one of Wadsworth's founding families (The Mills family) for which she received recognition at the 2014 Wadsworth bicentennial ceremony. Nina was the family genealogy guru for both the Shook and Gardner families and she also had a wealth of knowledge regarding the history of Wadsworth and Rittman. She was one of the owners as well as the corporate secretary at Shook Lumber Company in Rittman, Ohio. She enjoyed socializing, quilting, reading, adult coloring books, word searches, and watching Jeopardy and the Hallmark Channel. Nina is survived by her children: Bill (Stacye) Shook of Lodi, CA, Dan (Sandy) Shook of Wadsworth, Ohio, Lisa (Ed) Gahan of Salem, OR and Chris (BJ) Shook of Wooster, Ohio; brothers, James (Shelly) Gardner of Lady Lakes, FL and Jerry (Mary) Gardner of Fairlawn, Ohio; sisters, Mary Lent of Tempe, AZ and Frances Papp of Tonto Basin, AZ; grandchildren: Tiffany, Kaela, Ryan, Jennifer, Tracie, Casey and Jacob; great- grandchildren: Ezekiel, Andrew, Samantha, and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Shook (11/14/2014); sisters, Alice Warner and Margaret Trent; and brothers, Halley Gardner, Charles Gardner, Warren Gardner and Robert Gardner. She was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Gardner and Lois Gardner; brother-in-law, Dick Warner; foster brother, Vance T. Jarvis; and nephews: Kenneth Trent, Robert Warner and Edward Gardner. Nina's family would like to thank the staff at The Inn at CoalRidge in Wadsworth, the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman and Life Care Hospice for their loving care. Pastor Bud Olszewski from the Grace Brethren Church in Rittman will be officiating a private family only service. Interment will be with her husband at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Brethren Church. "Remember me with smiles and laughter for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears then don't remember me at all" Laura Ingalls Wilder
