Oliver Combs Obituary
Sunrise for Oliver Combs was January 16, 1928. Sunset was March 2, 2014. He was born in Birmingham, Ala.
Oliver accomplished many great things during his long life here. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War era. He was a member of the Brick Mason Local No. 7, where he was a union representative and received a 50 year award for his distinguished service. Oliver joined The Good Hope Baptist Church in 1958, and was a faithful member there until recently, when his health took a turn for the worst. Oliver left a legacy at Good Hope that will last there forever. While at Good Hope, he served as chairman of the Deacon Board, President of the Senior Choir, Superintendent of Sunday School Teachers and was an accomplished organist and pianist. Oliver also was an avid bowler.
Oliver was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Fannie Combs; brothers, George, Charlie and Timothy Combs; sisters, Eddie B. Harris and Della Stone. He leaves to be sadly missed by his wife and best friend of 58 years, Bessie Combs; sons, Mark (Karen) Combs, Ted (Alice) Davis, David (Gayle) Davis, all of Akron, Ohio, twins, Ronald (Tammy) and Donald (Michelle) Jeffery of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Marcheri Combs, Markisha Combs, Tiffany (Matt) Evans, Errin Golding, Ted Davis II, Terra Davis-Green, (Scott) Candice Ronald, Jr., Tristin Aaron, April (Joe) and Donald, Jr.; one brother, Robert (Mittie) Combs of New York City; one sister, Lorena Dollison of Akron, Ohio; special son, Lester (Sharon) Jones; special cousin, Milton Hardaway; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and great- grandchildren.
Home going services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, March 10, 2014 at The Good Hope Baptist Church, 301 Kelly Ave., Akron, Ohio, Pastor Jimmy Rodgers officiating. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 672 Springdale Street, Akron, OH 44310.

My sincere condolences and prayers to the Combs Family. As a child living next door, Mr. Combs was a true mentor to me. Little did I know that my Deacon Training was happening as a young child. This man exemplified the true meaning of God's Servant. He walked, talked and lived it on a daily basis. I remember him sitting on his patio in the evening studying his word. I thank the Father for the example that he blessed me with. R.I.P. Mr. Combs, gone but never forgotten.
