Paul Tenney Obituary

Paul C. Tenney

At the too young age of 88, Paul C. Tenney passed peacefully away surrounded by the love of his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Paul was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia on May 27, 1926. As an active member of Columbia United Church of Christ in Barberton, Ohio, he truly lived the Gospel of Christ.

He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife of 64 years, Ada; his son, Paul C. Tenney, Jr. (Jackie); daughter, Janet E. Kurtz (Brad), daughter, Brenda L. Savage (Jim); son, Brent C. Tenney; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a World War II veteran and served his country with bravery in the Pacific Theater. He loved fishing, gardening, the outdoors and his family. He loved family gatherings and preferred that over any other activity.

Paul was a long-haul truck driver and retired member of Teamsters Local 24. In his free time he traveled in almost every state in the nation with his wife.

Humor and wit was his hallmark. He was a kind, generous and selfless man. His family will dearly miss him but will remember his sterling example of a life well lived.

Funeral service will be held SATURDAY, April 4, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Columbia United Church of Christ, 978 Wooster Rd. West, Barberton, Rev. John Henniger officiating. Burial with military honors by Firestone VFW #3383 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron. Calling hours FRIDAY, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry St. (Rt. 93), Canal Fulton, and SATURDAY from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Columbia United Church of Christ. My belated husbands grandmother was Alice Tenny from Buckannan, W. Va. Her father was Harland Paige Tenny from Buckannan, My husband grandmother died May 1954. My husband name was Carl Ray Childers, the Tenny grandparents are buried at Harmonburg Pa and I was there last year where they are buried. Do you know what cemetery the Tennys are buried in W. Va. I have a couple of old pictures but I do not know who they are and I was wondering anyone would know?

Aunt Ada, Paul Jr, Janet, Brenda and Brent:
We are so sorry to hear of Uncle Paul's passing, but rejoice in the reality that he met the Lord face to face. What a true comfort in your time of loss. As a little girl, I remember such a sweet uncle who was always smiling. He never had much to say but his presence always drew me in. I remember hugs and smiles that I treasure today. We both remember stopping in Canal Fulton when we traveled north on family vacations and even a Reger reunion. We both knew that Uncle Paul and Aunt Ada always welcomed family to stop by anytime. We also remember a "twinkle in Paul's eye" when he was around his family, especially Aunt Ada. What an uncle, what a man! Our love and prayers are with you, Charlotte and Rod

Aunt Ada and Family,
Uncle Paul was such a kind and gentle Uncle. Always smiling and always waiting for the Tenney clan in Ohio to come to Grandma and Grandad Reger's in WV. Great childhood memories were made there. May the Lord help all of you thru this time of sorrow. I love you. May God Bless You

Dear Ada, Janet and all the Tenney family and friends,

When I got the the obituaries and saw Paul's face, I could only smile and of course within I was moved to tears. What a great man, it is fitting during the holiest of days for us as Christians that God would take him to Himself. I am certain he was the way he was because of all of you, every Joy, every Sorrow made him who he is. I say is, because I am certain those we love never leave us, we just can't see him with our eyes, but with the eyes of our Soul, we will see him.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives, with all our love and our continued prayers during this time of sorrow, The Rusher Family
