Robert "Bob" Thomas Douglas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 04, 2021. Bob was born on September 8, 1946, to Elwood Ervin and Dixie Faye Douglas. Bob was extremely proud to work as a police officer for the City of Tallmadge. He retired honorably from the police force after a very rewarding 27 year career. With his great love of books and learning, he continued to pursue his goal to become a lawyer. Bob worked hard to achieve that goal and graduated from The University of Akron School of Law in 1999. He worked tirelessly as an assistant prosecutor and public defender in the years that followed. After entering retirement for a second time, he enjoyed being a doting grandpa. Much time was happily spent at his grandchildren's sporting events. Bob also enjoyed caring for his rescue cats, cooking and spending time with friends. Bob was strong, kind, smart, dependable and fair; our lives have been blessed to know him and we will miss him immensely. Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Elwood Jr. and sister, Marion. He will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones: Arlene Rae and Jeffrey Richard Jones; daughter, and son-in-law, Robert Thomas and Dawn Douglas; son and daughter-in-law; Vanessa Lynn Douglas, daughter, Jeffrey and Hannah Jones; grandson and wife, Andrea Jones; granddaughter, Joshua Jones; grandson, Noorullah Malik, grandson, Sammyullah Malik, grandson; and many extended family members whom he dearly loved. Bob's memory will be cherished and he will continue to provide strength through the wisdom and life's lessons he shared with his children, family, and friends. Family will receive friends on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with memorial service immediately following at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305. Interment at Homeland Cemetery, Tallmadge Road, Rootstown, Ohio to follow the service.

I remember Robert as the policeman at Rocky’s rollerskating rink way back in the day. He was always kind and smiling and I wanted to invite him to my wedding when I got old enough. I remember when one of his kids were getting married and he told us all about the wedding. He was a very kind soul and you should all be very proud to have had him in your life. May God bless you and keep you in these times of sorrow.
