Tony, Leighsa, Mary, Martin, Malik, and Miles,
Roberta was here on this earth not by chance, but by God's choosing. His hands formed her and made her the person that she was. She was one of a kind. She lacked nothing that Gods grace wouldn't give her. God allowed all of us to be here during this time of history with her to fulfill His special purpose. She was God's servant in God's place at God's perfect time. I will miss my friend, but the memories she's left me I will hold dear in my heart until we meet again.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to Roberta's family. Roberta was one of Akron's larger-than-life's public figures. She was world-class in education, culture and heritage. Roberta Chapman, a committed humanitarian. I am saddened for her family and friends, and also the many students and colleagues that she leaves behind. Yet, she has left all of us, without a doubt, with fond memories of her caring, kindness and love.

Roberta is a life long friend. My family has been connected up with the Chapman's since forever. Our parents worked together in the school system. It was a many a day that Mr. Chapman walked around to our house on Noble to talk with dad. Darrell and Roberta were in the same class. She was always smart and full of grace. She was a people person from the start always looking out for others and promoting inclusion. I remember as an adult working with her on several projects at the Culture Center on the UA campus. She always wanted people to be proud of their heritage. Which reminds me that her father conveyed that same doctrine while serving as principle at Crouse and later at Garfield. Roberta like Shirla McClain is one of the bright and shining lights that we as Akronites have had the privilege to share time and space with over the years. We thank God for allowing us the great privilege and send our most sincere condolences to the her family and friends.

My love, prayers and support go out to Tony, Leighsa, Mary, and the grandchildren. I, like many in the community, have been blessed by Roberta's generosity, selflessness, wisdom, and genuine concern for the future of women and children.
My earliest memories are of Stewart Elementary Principal Roberta Gibson .....a beautiful, statuesque, professional, educated black woman who wanted the little children of Stewart to know that they were beautiful, gifted and that they came from a rich culture. During this time Mrs. Gibson partnered with community leaders and businesses to bring diverse cultural experiences that she knew her students would not experience otherwise.
I can still recall the day that Mrs. Gibson provided me with my first suits (from her own closet) that I wore proudly at my elementary education field experiences and as the PTA President at the PTA meetings.
I will be forever grateful for the love that Mrs. Gibson gave to me and my sister Cydney over the years. Thank you for becoming our mentor and friend Roberta. I also thank you for caring enough (even in illness) to participate in my wedding to your cousin. I am sure that as I wipe my tears hear on Earth, Cydney is celebrating being reunited with you in heaven.

Although we have to say goodbye, this won't be the end, I'll think of you with a smile and always call you friend.
Memories won't be so bad, maybe just a little sad; goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean I'll miss you, until we meet again.

Roberta was such a classy lady. She was a good mom, daughter, and wife. She was a great friend and classmate. Twenty years ago, I was very ill and far away from my home in the South. Roberta led me to a great doctor and paid for my visit. Eventually, I returned the money. When I graduated from UA, she hosted a dinner party for me. She taught me French. She introduced me to many of the finest qualities in food and wine. May God bless her family. Roberta has struggled and now she rests. RIP my sister. C Echols

To the family of Roberta Chapman,
Please accept my sincerest condolences. I was just thinking about Roberta yesterday. She came to my mind when I was reminiscing her father's involvement in the education community. Roberta followed his footsteps in education as he did. Her bright smiles and personality is what I remember most about her.
My prayers go out to her family.
