Roger Hopper Obituary

Roger J. Hopper

Roger J. Hopper, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on December 11, 2017 at age 77.

Roger was born in Cleveland to Ray and Dorothy (Ramp) Hopper. After a happy childhood in Fairview Park, Roger obtained his BS at Ohio Wesleyan and his PhD in organic chemistry at the Case Institute of Technology. At Case he met Pat Linsky, who would become his wife of 51 years.

Following graduate school Roger took a position with Amoco in Chicago. A year (and one blizzard of the century) later, Roger joined Goodyear in Akron where he would work for three plus decades, earning over thirty patents and even more friends.

Roger was a skillful carpenter and artist who delighted in building a barn and screened gazebo at the family's Bath home. He also enjoyed golf, traveling, and a good meal out. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, from vacations with Pat and the boys to many wonderful Grandma and Grampa Camps with his grandchildren.

He is survived by wife Pat, his boys David and Ray, their wives Denise and Michelle and his grandchildren Christian, Jacob, Sean, Samantha and Jason.

A special thank you to the staff at Maplewood CF, Kindred and Harbor Light Hospice and the other loving caregivers who helped Roger these past few years. His family will be forever grateful.

Roger donated his body to the Cleveland Clinic Body Donation Program for the advancement of medical science.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 13, 2018 at the Fellowship Hall behind Bath Church, 3980 W. Bath Road from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Roger's name to the Maplewood CF Associates Fund, 190 W. Bath Rd, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
