Ruby Lauretta Conrad

1925 - 2021

TOGETHER FOREVER Ruby Lauretta (Scott) Conrad, age 96, passed from this life peacefully on August 21, 2021 at The Inn at Coalridge in Wadsworth, Ohio. Ruby was born on April 5th, 1925 to Clara (Purtee) Scott and Ray Scott in Springfield, OH. She grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield South High School in 1943. In August of 1946, she married Edwin Conrad and the couple built a sturdy brick home and started their family, resulting in three children, Sonda, James (Jim) and Bruce. The family moved to Akron, Ohio in 1965 following Edwin's promotion with Ohio Edison and settled in Kenmore. Ruby made the Woolworth counter shine at the dinette for many years at Summit Mall to earn money for the kids' college fund. She supported all her children's activities. She never missed one of her boys' high school or college football games, even though she always kept her eyes closed during the action for fear of an injury. After retiring, she volunteered at Akron Children's Hospital, hand-sewing Pinkie Puppets for the young patients there. She later took over coordinating the program for several years. She kept busy in her later years spoiling her grandchildren with breakfasts in bed and trips to McDonalds, movies and the bowling alley. Ruby and Edwin enjoyed the extended families' annual trips to Myrtle Beach and created many great memories. Following Edwin's death in 2008, Ruby remained in the couples Doylestown condo until she moved to The Inn at CoalRidge in Wadsworth, Ohio where she received excellent care for her remaining years. Ruby is predeceased by her parents, Ray and Clara Scott; brothers, James, Richard and Cecil; daughter, Sonda Hall; son-in-law, Ronald Hall and grandson, Scott Hall. She is survived by sons, Jim of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Bruce of Tallmadge, Ohio; grandchildren, Christy (Bryan) McMillen, Amie (Doug) Koeberle, Melissa (Todd) Brazelton, Holly (Mark) Johnson, Melanie Naida, Mitchell Conrad and Ellen (Cameron) Phillips, and 15 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. Cremation has taken place and remains will be interred with Edwin's at the Ohio Western Reserve Veterans Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. A private celebration of life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Akron Children's Hospital Foundation.
