Ruby Catherine Nance McDaniel

McDaniel, Ruby Catherine Nance – Age 90, of Knoxville passed away quietly at her home Saturday, April 11, 2009. Although born in Rutledge Mrs. McDaniel moved to Knoxville with her husband, Elmer, in 1946. She was a faithful member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. She attended every service until ill health several years ago prevented her from attending church. She greatly appreciated the kindness and concern expressed by her fellow church members during her long illness.

Mrs. McDaniel was a graduate of Rutledge High School and Knoxville Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper for National Linen Service until the birth of her son. Several years later, she worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. and later for the J.C. Penney Co. She retired from Penney’s in 1980.

Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer E. McDaniel; her mother and father, Rube and Hattie Owens Nance; her stepmother, Emma Nance; her sister, Eva Nance Berkley Bruce; her brother, Carl Nance and his wife, Grace.

She is survived by her son Steven A. McDaniel and his wife Susan; their two sons, Christopher and Patrick; her granddaughter, Katie and her husband, Jessie Duncan; nephews, Donald Nance of Rutledge, Tennessee and Roy Berkley of Knoxville. She is also survived by Victoria (Tori) Sensing who provided kind and loving care for Mrs. McDaniel for the past six years.

Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Memorial Gardens for a 1:00 p.m. graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Mortuary- Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
