WALTER E. STRAWMAN

1932 - 2021

Walter E. Strawman Walter E. Strawman, age 89, of Kent, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 in Ravenna, Ohio. He was born in Pottstown, PA on February 16, 1932 to Edwin and Martha (Jones) Strawman. He received his Masters Degree in Chemistry from Kent State University. Walter retired from the City of Akron where he was Water Supply Manager. He was an Army veteran, a ham radio enthusiast (WA8PVS) and a member of the Portage Amateur Radio Club. Walter was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Kent. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Kent for fifty-one years and the Garden Club of Kent. Walter did volunteer work with Portage County Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice and the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program for several years. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine on March 28, 2020 and his brother, James. He is survived by his sister, Jean (Ray) McRay; children, Susan (Glenn) Ervin, Steven (Sally) Strawman, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Strawman, Jay Strawman and Amy Engdahl; grandchildren, Gregory Ervin, Peter (Melissa) Strawman, Marette Handy, Marlayna (Jeffrey) Covington, Samantha (Jordan) Rigdon, Scott Strawman, Benjamin Engdahl, Ethan Engdahl; great grandchildren, Margaret Strawman, Cruz Gonzales, Makena Covington, Jayden Covington and Isaiah Covington; great-great grandchild, Harper Gonzales. The family would like to thank his caregivers at UH Portage Medical Center and Hospice of the Western Reserve. There will be no calling hours or services at this time.
