Cort, Sr.
Bill Cort, 91, of Akron passed away August 2, 2017. He was born October 8, 1925 in Akron to the late Charles and Grace Cort.
Bill joined the U. S. Navy in 1943 and proudly served in New Guinea during World War II. Upon his return to Akron, he enrolled at The University of Akron, where he met the love of his life, Dolores. They were married in 1950 and remain in touch with the close friends who introduced them.
After graduation, Bill became an elementary school teacher at Leggett School, until he retired in 1980. He volunteered at the Akron Blind Center for several years, leading discussions on history and current events. He also loved to travel and never met a stranger, as he enjoyed talking to everyone. Bill often talked about moving to Virginia when he retired, but the arrival of his beloved grandchildren changed those plans. He was never happier than when surrounded by his family.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen Sager; great-grandson, Riley; and brother, Chuck. He is survived by his loving wife, of 67 years, Dolores; son, Bill Jr. (MaryAnne) Cort; daughter, Cindy Cort; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joe (Missie), Robin (Scott), Stephanie (Chris) and David; great-granddaughter, Emily; brother, Don (Hessie) Cort; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don
(Patsy) Reynolds, Nancy (John) Stout and Marge James; as well as many other loving family and friends.
Per Bill's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 6:30 P.M. TODAY, August 4, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR619), Akron, Ohio 44319 with Rev. Randy May officiating. Family and friends may call TODAY from 3:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Firestone Park United Methodist Church, 250 N. Firestone Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44301 or to ClearPath Hospice, 475 Wolf Ledges Parkway, Akron, Ohio 44311. To leave a special message online for the family, visit our website at www.schermesserfh.com.

Leggett school in the late 50's. best teacher I had all throughout my school years.please accept our deepest sympathy

To my aunt Dolores and cousins Bill and Cindy, I haven't the words to express my sadness for your loss. It has been so long, but I have wonderful memories of how happy uncle Bill was, teaching the blind. He would even throw down some dry sarcasm now and then to get a good belly laugh from those listening. You're all in my thoughts and prayers. May it bring you peace to know that he is with his Colleen. I miss you all.
