William Edward Holstine

May 22, 1929 - January 4, 2021 William Edward Holstine, 91, of Akron, OH, departed this life Monday, January 4, 2021 at Greenbrier Nursing Home in Parma Heights, OH. William was born May 22, 1929 in Ritchie County, WV, a son of the late Elmer and Susan (Barker) Holstine. William was a United States Army Veteran and courageously fought in the Korean War. He graduated from Greer Shop Training as a Diesel Mechanic in 1962 in Chicago, IL. After graduating, he went to work for Cummins Diesel from 1965-1994, retiring with 29 years of service. William was a long time member of the Akron Baptist Temple, in which he participated in the golf club and preached in the surrounding nursing homes. He very much enjoyed volunteering at the nursing home, anything to do with outdoors, and golfing. In his church golf club, he proudly accomplished a hole in one, on two separate occasions. He was a very active guy, who still took pleasure in mowing his own lawn, even at 91. William is survived by his loving wife, Fonda (Reed) Holstine; daughters, Debbie Koger (Jim) of Akron, Ohio, and Susan Hughes of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, William Hughes of Dennison, Ohio, and Joshua Hughes of Canton, Ohio; brothers, Leonard Holstine of Smithville, WV, John Holstine from Parkersburg, WV, and Paul Holstine (Linda) from Smithville, WV; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Elmer Holstine; sisters Bessie Garrison, Lillian Poole, Pearl Burr, and Evelyn Farmer. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV. Visitation will take place before the funeral from 11 - 1 p.m. William will be laid to rest at the Ayers Cemetery in Smithville, WV with military services provided by Harris-Ritchie Post 3554. In accordance with the CDC guidelines, masks must be worn in the funeral home.
