MIDDLEPORT — Gladys Marie Manning Mitchell went to be with Our Lord, Friday, December 18, 2020.
There will be a private graveside service in Ayden, North Carolina with a memorial service for family and friends in 2021.
Gladys was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, 1929 in Pitt County, North Carolina.
She had a passion for her children, as well as many others she babysat throughout the years. She also had a great sense of humor. She said the Lord did too. Gladys worked for Sears & Roebuck Co. and was a member of Parkview Baptist Church where she was baptized. The family would like to thank Overbrook Rehabilitation Center for their mother's care.

She lovingly raised three children, Stephanie Mitchell Gibbs, Teresa Oiler and husband, David and Scott Mitchell and wife, Sandy. She had four grandsons, Kenny Weeks and wife, Janie, Ches Weeks and wife, Amy, Jon Oiler and Justin Oiler, three granddaughters, April Ehman and husband, Cory, Jennifer Hughes and husband, John and Heather Comparri and husband, Joe. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren including baby Nova Marie Ehman, who will arrive in February 2021.

What a great lady: Aunt Gladys will be in our hearts forever. So many fun summer visits in Norfolk with cousins Stephanie, Teresa, & Scotty, Aunt Gladys & Mom taking us to the amusement park at Ocean View for rides & picnicking at Virginia Beach, swimming in the backyard pool between being entertained by our moms' family stories - then hearing their singing “Sentimental Journey” during cleanup. Plenty of laughter & good times I’ll always remember. ~Mel B

Always looked forward to visiting Aunt Gladys, Teresa, Stephanie and of course, little Scottie when they lived in Norfolk. Like all the Mannings, she was always friendly and had a beautiful smile. God bless her and the family. What a family reunion that will be!!
