CROWN CITY — Matthew Lewis "Matt" Bates, age 33, of Crown City, Ohio, died Tuesday evening July 27, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Born January 9, 1988 in Point Pleasant, W.Va., Matt was a Merchant Mariner and enjoyed working on vehicles.
He is survived by, his Father, Robert B. Bates of Gallipolis, Ohio, Mother, Deborah "Dee" (John) Queen of Crown City, Grandmother, Sally Wears of Gallipolis, two brothers, Mark Grimes of Point Pleasant and David Bates of Gallipolis, three Sisters, Miranda Bates of North Carolina, Jenna (Shane) Plantz of Gallipolis and Lindsey Bates of Gallipolis. Also surviving was a special friend, Michael Carter of Gallipolis and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
No services are being planned.
