CARROLL — Richard Douglas Struble (Dick), 90, formerly of Carroll, Ohio passed away peacefully at his daughter's residence on August 1, 2021.
Dick was born on his grandparents' farm near Logan, Ohio, on September 23, 1930 and graduated from Pomeroy HS. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War; and was a mechanic on B-36 long range strategic bombers while stationed at Fairchild AFB near Spokane, Wash. There, he met the love of his life, Joan Gracie Bell, and the two were wed on June 19, 1953.
After his service in the Air Force, Dick graduated from Franklin University with a degree in electronics and was employed by North American Rockwell in Columbus until 1970. In 1970 he started, owned, and operated his own business, D&J Antenna, with Joan by his side until his retirement in 1992. Dick was a faithful and loving husband and father, never met a stranger, and was kind to everyone he met. Dick & Joan were lifetime members of Shalom United Methodist Church in Carroll and loved their Friday night get-togethers with friends for a "friendly" but competitive game or two of euchre.
Left to cherish his memory are sons Gordon of Brainerd, Minn., Douglas (Julieanne) of Naples, Fla., Bryan (Cynthia) of Pinehurst, N.C., and daughter Lori Hammond of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; sisters Sue Tubbs of Syracuse, Ohio, Janet (Bill) Williamson of Rutland, Ohio, and brother Daniel (Ruthie) Struble of Granville, Ohio; two grandchildren Martin and Nigel Struble; six step-grandchildren Spencer, Jacob, & Jeremy Hartsock; Jessica Howington, Trista Fravel, and Sarah Rice; and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and cousins; life-long friend Don (Esther) Ansel of Lancaster, Ohio; friends from Shalom UMC, and many, many others too numerous to list.
Preceded in death are his beloved wife Joan, parents Clarence & Alice Struble, brother Joseph, and granddaughter Erin Weberg.
We wish to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided during the final months of dad's life. You treated us and our father like family; and may God truly bless every one of you for your labor of love.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Shalom United Methodist Church, 4925 Plum Rd., Carroll, OH. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shalom UMC in his memory.
