GALLIPOLIS FERRY — On Tuesday, Dec. 4, Ruth Evelyn Cook Northup passed away at the age of 85.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.
She was born on Oct. 28, 1933, in Gallipolis Ferry. She was the daughter of the late John and Mamie (Walker) Cook. She graduated from Point Pleasant High School with her GED. She had a passion for reading and had her own library room.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Thomas D.Northup; two sons, Gregory D. Northup and Michael W. Northup; three brothers, Charles Cook, Walter Cook, and John Cook (Junior); two sisters, Donna Sheline, Virginia Gibson.
Surviving her are one son and daughter-in-law, John T. And Vicki J. Northup of Racine, Ohio; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra E. and Howard Morgan Long of Point Pleasant, Angela K. and Shawn D. Sayre of Arbuckle, and Lori A. and Ronald L. of St. Clairsville, Ohio; four sisters, Margaret Pierce, California; MaryBelle Pasquale of Bidwell, Ohio; Lucy Mitchell of Rickman, Tennessee; Doris Henry of Gallipolis, Ohio; two brothers, Cecil Cook of Gallipolis and Larry Cook of Gallipolis Ferry; two brothers-in-law, Mike Mitchell of Rickman, Tennessee and Gary Northup of Clifton; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Johnson of Mason and Mary Litchfield of New Haven.
Ruth had seven grandchildren, Jeremy T. Northup, Amy J. Roush, Alexander M. Long, Nathaniel N. Burdette, Christopher M. Long, Lauren N. Burdette, and Melissa Taylor. She had five great grandchildren, Ava Roush, Cohen Roush, Harper M.Long, Rogan T. Burdette, and Hadley M. Long. Special people, Nikki R. Northup, Courtney Long, Bri Burdette, Adam Roush, Zach Orban, and Sharon Walker Hanshaw. Also, Ruth loved all her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 8, 11:30 a.m. at Crow Hussell Funeral Home Point Pleasant, with Pastor Alfred Holley and Minister Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Beale Cemetery, Apple Grove. Friends may call at funeral home Friday, Dec. 7, 6-9 p.m. A celebration of life will follow the funeral at the Trinity Methodist Church.
