Berta Mae "Gammy" Goodpasture

Berta Mae 'Gammy' Goodpasture went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 31, 2004, at age 89. Born in Santiago, Cuba in 1914 to George and Cachita Spooner, Gammy was brought to the U.S. by her parents at age 7. She had an inborn passion for helping others and enjoyed a long and successful nursing career until retirement in 1982. She continued to follow her passion as a Deaconess Hospital volunteer well into her 80's (accumulating over 3,000 hours) until she was no longer physically able to continue. Even then, she prepared and delivered meals to neighbors in her retirement home. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She is survived by her brother, Robert Spooner, Beaumont, TX; sisters, Connie Littlejohn, San Antonio, TX, and Helen Lockert, Port Ludlow, WA; daughters, Connie Scharbor & husband Coy, and Jody Harris; son, James T. Edwards, Lancaster, CA; and grandsons, Jim Randel, Kevin Randel, Andy Harris, John Harris, Tim Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Scott Edwards; 14 great grandchildren; niece, Patty Sullivan; and nephews, John Devine and Dug & Mark Spooner. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 4, at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel. MERCER-ADAMS
