Ernest Gonzales
October 25, 1948 - April 8, 2020
Ernest Gonzales, 72, died on April 8, 2020, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ernie was born on October 25, 1948, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to late parents Jose Encarnacion (Chon) Gonzales and Mary Caroline Vigil Gonzales. Ernie was married to Lorraine Gonzales for 41 years; they were later divorced. Ernie was the youngest of ten siblings. After attending Weber State University, Ernie was employed at Hill Air Force Base before transferring to the Federal Aviation Admini-stration. After retirement, he worked as a contractor, training FAA employees at the Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma. Ernie will be remembered as a man who would do anything for the people he loved. Family members and friends knew they could always come to Ernie for projects, knowledge, love, and important decisions. Ernie enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobile riding, motorcycle riding, and traveling. During visits to Utah, he enjoyed camping with his grand-daughters and dinners with his daughter. He also enjoyed going to Country Jam yearly with his son and nephews. Ernie's last resi-dence was in Layton, Utah, and in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he lived for the past nine years with his girlfriend, Karen Clifton. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Encarnacion Gonzales; his mother, Mary Caroline Vigil Gonzales; brothers, Juan and Richard Gonzales; and two sisters, Dora Martinez and Eugenia Olague. His two brothers survive him, Joseph Robert Gonzales and Julian Gonzales, three sisters, Mary Ida Martinez, Viola Gabaldon, and Mary Esther Brems, two children, David Gonzales and Gina Kirkpatrick, and two grandchildren, Kennedy and Khloe Kirkpatrick, all of who reside in Utah. Ernie died of complications from contracting the COVID-19 virus. We want to thank the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital in OKC for their dedication to caring for Ernie and updating our family daily. Because of the current situation, the family won't be holding any services. We will have a celebration of life for Ernie when times have resolved. In lieu of flowers, donate to your local food bank.
