Fred Windham Obituary

Fred W. Windham, 86, died at home, Tuesday, March 19, 2002. Fred was born November 10, 1915 to Joe Shelby and Myrtle Hooper Windham near Sayre, Oklahoma. He married Lucille Ford July 5, 1947. A memorial service will be held at Louise Prichard Chapel of First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, at 10:00 am. Saturday, March 23. On Sunday, March 24, family will be receiving friends from 12:30 to 2:30 at Rose Chapel in Sayre, Oklahoma. He will be buried in Pioneer Cemetery near Sayre. Fred attended Southwestern State University and the School of Engineering at Oklahoma A&M. He was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation as a Civil Engineer for 34 years. He was involved in the planning of several Oklahoma Lakes, including Lake Altus, Thunderbird, Ft. Cobb, Arbuckle, Foss and McGee Creek. During World War II, Fred served in the United States Army Fifth Field Artillery Sound Ranging Platoon as survey instrument man in China, Burma and India. As a Christian and a Baptist since 1950, Fred was a committed member of First Baptist church from 1989 to his death. He loved young people and served many years as a leader with youth groups. Fred retired in 1973. He held volunteer positions in his neighborhood and his church. His favorite charity was Good Shepherd of the First Baptist church. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Lucille; one son, David and wife Candy of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Doniece Wilson and husband Charles of Piedmont; David Windham, Jr. and wife Laurie of Edmond; Paul Windham of Oklahoma City; Mark Windham and wife Manuella of Austin, Texas; and their mother Shirley Frese Windham. Also seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Chris, and Morgan Wilson; Madison and Savannah Windham; Cassady and Brooklyn Windham; and many nieces and nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Carroll and Mae Puckett. HAHN-COOK STREET & DRAPER N. Grand at Classen 848-3744

We are so saddened at Fred's passing but we are so full of wonderful, happy memories of fun times spent with you two. Mr. Fred was just so special - we will always remember him with love and affection - especially his great sense of humor and his kind, gentle manner. We will miss him dearly.
