Glenna Helm Obituary

Glenna Helm, 84, of Midwest City died Feb. 2, 2007. Glenna was born Aug. 22, 1922 in Terrelton, OK the daughter of Dolph and Eva Mae Sikes. She was married to Charles Helm and together they were residents of Midwest City for over 50 years. She was an active Charter Member of Meadowood Baptist Church for 45 years. Glenna led an active life and attended water aerobics at Rose State College and was an avid walker. She was loved as a wife, mother, and grandmother who was proud of her children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making quilt tops, and being outside gardening. Glenna ministered to others through her cooking and childcare in her home. She loved people, especially friends, neighbors, and Sunday school members who enriched her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Helm and beloved daughter, Donna Sue Smallwood. Glenna is survived by daughter, Judy and her husband, Bob Newsom of Midwest City, OK; 2 sons, Mike and his wife, Barbara Helm of Ft. Smith , AR and Charles and his wife, Vicky Helm of Houston, TX; son-in-law, Kim and his wife, Vida Smallwood of Sugarland, TX; 9 grandchildren, Michelle Helm of Houston, TX; Krista and her husband, Allan Luper of Edmond, OK, Heather Helm of The Colony, TX, Dr. Matthew and his wife, Stacy Newsom-Kerr of San Francisco, CA, Bradley Helm of Little Rock, AR, Erik Smallwood of Oklahoma City, Tana and her husband Ryan Roberson of Athens, GA, Ty Fleming of Chicago, IL and Kimberly Smallwood of Oklahoma City, OK; a brother-in-law Paul Sykora of Stroud, OK; numerous other relatives and friends. Special gratitude is expressed to Faye and Teresa, her devoted caregivers. Funeral Services will be conducted by Ford Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 6th at Meadowood Baptist Church with Bob Rutherford officiating. Her 9 grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and the Progress Sunday School Class of Meadowood Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers. Private burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meadowood Baptist Church at 2816 Woodcrest, Midwest City, OK 73110.

Judy & Family: We loved both your mom & dad, they were great people, when I got married almost 23 yrs ago they served at my wife & mine rehearsal dinner along with others at Meadowood Bapt. Judy, my heart goes out to you and your entire family. May God give all of you strength during these sad days. (I lost my mother two weeks after I arrived in Korea) Continue to celebrate the wonderfully rich and full Christian life your Mother led. God Bless you all.
