HAROLD GOODWIN Obituary

Goodwin Sr. Aug. 14, 1924 - Oct. 27, 2017 EDMOND Dr. Harold Ray Goodwin Sr., 93, was born in Tulsa, OK on August 14, 1924 to John and Zora Goodwin and passed away, peacefully, on October 27, 2017. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1940. On November 7, 1943 he married Peggy Louise (Kelley) Goodwin. Ray enlisted in the US Navy where he became a dive bomber pilot and was stationed in Wildwood, NJ. and saw duty off a carrier in the Pacific Theatre. Upon completing his service, they moved to Memphis, TN where Ray attended Southern College of Optometry and began their family of three children. Ray and Peggy were always active in the First Christian Church where they were Deacons and Elders. Ray was a member of Rotary International and sang in the church choir as well as being a member of a Barber Shop Quartet. Upon his completion of his degree, they moved to Sulphur, OK where he established his Optometry practice and later became Mayor of Sulphur. They remained there until his retirement in 1999. He sold his practice and he and Peggy moved to Edmond, OK to enjoy their retirement. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Peggy, one son Harold Ray Goodwin Jr. He is survived by his daughter Sally Peterson and husband Rex Peterson of Madison, WI, and his son Michael Goodwin and wife Connie Goodwin of League City, TX, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. The family are granting Ray's wishes to have a private celebration of his life with just family.

Dear Sally and Mike,
My condolences on the loss of your dad. He was such a nice man and I have many pleasant memories of happy times visiting your home throughout our growing up years. Peggy was my walking partner when I was expecting our first child. We chatted away and she made our walking time a lot of fun. You were blessed to be brought up in a fine Christian home.

My parents, Don and Carol Braden, loved Ray and Peggy and would be grieving his death with you as your family meant so much to ours. Beyond giving me the gift of clear sight he taught me about the theatre, government and fun. Our hearts are with you in this time.

Dear Sally and Mike,
I shall always remember and be grateful for the "power couple" that were your parents. They were eternally supportive of youth activities at the church, the school, and the Boy Scouts. Please know that you remain in my prayers for comfort, peace, and blessed memories.

Your Dad was always an encouragement to Peggy and the other women in the church when we attended out of town Christian Church activities. God Bless You For Your Loving Kindness. You are now both in Heaven together.
