Herbert Wirth Obituary

Herbert D. Wirth was born on June 11, 1911, in Jackson Heights, New York and went to be with his Lord December 26, 2006. Everyone affectionately called him 'Herb'. Herb was a New York Yankee fan through and through. As a young man he grew up watching Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio. In the 1960's he took his son to see the Yankee greats: Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Yogi Berra in Yankee Stadium. Anyone who knew Herb always saw him in his New York Yankee hat and jacket. Herb was a WWII veteran serving proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired machinist at Tinker AFB. He was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City. Herb was a life time member of the American Legion Post 12 and past commander. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verda Wirth. Herb is survived by his son, David, and his wife, Pattie, of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Leigh Ann Wirth, of Nashville, TN; grandson, Andy Wirth, and his wife, Kellye, of Edmond; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved 'grand dog', Jackson, a golden lab who always brought a smile to his face. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the pastoral staff of Messiah Lutheran Church for their many visits and ministry to Herb; Dr. Christopher Martin for his loving care; the wonderful staff and nurses at Jefferson's Garden where he lived; the Susanna Wesley Center at Epworth Villa for the outstanding love and care by all the staff members and nurses; and Mission Hospice for the exceptional love and care of the nurses, chaplain, and staff. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 29, 2006, at in the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel with graveside services following at Sunnylane Cemetery in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mission Hospice, 515 Central Park Drive, # 107, Okla. City, OK. 73105. We love you dearly and will miss you ' Poppie'.

Our deepest sympathy to our Dear Friends, David, Pattie & Family. We are so lucky we had the pleasure of knowing "Herb", and have fond memories of the times we shared with him and the family on special occasions. Every time we saw him, he always asked how's "Boomer" our little dog, who made him smile. Herb had a good long life and may he now rest in peace.
