J.D. Brooks Obituary

J.D. Brooks passed away peacefully at his Edmond home on September 20, 2010 at the age of 88. J.D. was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on December 11, 1921 to Clara Calaway and Joe Brooks. He graduated Temple High School and attended Oklahoma A&M (OSU) for one semester before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a communication officer in the Pacific Conflict in WWII from 1941 to 1945. During a short leave in 1944, he married his high school sweetheart Evelyn Jameson. After being honorably discharged, they both worked at Haliburton Oil in South Texas. In 1950, they moved to Oklahoma City, building a home and starting a family. J.D. was a master carpenter for J.W. Skaggs Construction Company and eventually took over as president. He retired as one of the most respected commercial contractors in Oklahoma. J.D. was an avid hunter, angler and craftsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, one brother, and numerous dear friends. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Evelyn, his brothers Bob and Joe Brooks, daughter Beverly Rosenhamer and husband Gary, daughter Betty Brooks, and four grandchildren J. Dustin Rosenhamer, M.D. of Houston, Texas, Joe Benjamin Rosenhamer of Edinburg, Texas, B. Dillon Rosenhamer of Edmond and Dee Brooke Sadler of Edmond. Special thank you to Lisa, Amanda and Nancy with Good Shepherd Hospice. J.D., Dad and Grandpa, we love you and respect your courage to the end. Rest in peace. Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday September 24, 2010 at New Covenant United Methodist Church with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
