I went on many trips with Dean as a teenager. He was an important mentor to me. His calm silence influenced me greatly--the ability to be quiet and listen and pay attention is precious and rare. We drove to Abilene at least once together. We went to Lakenheath AFB in the UK together. His sermons were excellent--I feel like he didn't get enough credit for his understated and humble style. But more important than sermons was his presence--he was a comfortable and kind person to be with.

Dean has been one of our special people ever since we first met at OCC in 1967. He was one of my roommates and best friends. He and Jeanine were there with us when we married. This hurts deeply, but to Jeanine, we just have to say he is now where we all want to be. You have our love and prayers, Jerry and Janie.
