I never had the pleaseure of meeting Janell, but I am one of the countless Employee Benefits specialists who regularly read Benefitsblog.com. The benefits community will miss Janell's thoughtful and insightful commentary in a complicated, always changing field. My prayers are with Janell's family and her friends and I hope it comforts you to know how many lives she touched through her work.

I did not know Janell well; in fact, we had only exchanged emails about our respective writings on retirement plans. However, I greatly admired her voice in the retirement plan industry and was truly saddened to hear that she was ill. I had tried a couple of times to contact her and to express my support, but had no luck doing so. Anyway, this is a long-hand way of saying that Janell influenced people far and wide, was known for her thoughtfulness and integrity in the benefits field, and we will all miss her voice. My prayers are with you all.

Lance,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I don't know if you recall this, but Janell handled the probate of my father's estate back in 1984 when she was with Hartzog, Conger & Cason. She was always so caring in all her dealings with our family, and was an inspiration to me in law school. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. Joe Morsman
