JEANE HESTER obituary

JEANE HESTER Obituary

June 15, 1929 - Dec. 24, 2018 GALVESTON, TX Jeane Porter Hester, M.D., passed into eternity on Dec. 24, 2018. She was a graduate of OU College of Medicine and moved to Houston, TX to begin a distinguished career in cancer research at MD Anderson. Her pioneering research with IBM led to the development of the IBM 2997 blood cell separator and the development of apheresis protocols used in the treatment of blood cancers. She was recognized by the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in 1976, inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1987. She is survived by her son Steven E. Hester, and wife Fern Hester, her twin sister June Busby, sister Joan Pope, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her greatest passion was family, cooking, travel, and research and did all with great enthusiasm.
