Joan Gable Obituary

Joan R. Gable went to be with her Lord November 3, 2007. She was born November 13, 1921, daughter of Roy R. and Ruth Paschall Rice in Ellsworth, Kansas. She graduated from high school in Salina, Kansas and attended nursing school at the O.U. School of Nursing. There, she met her husband Dr. James J. Gable, Jr. who preceded her in death in July 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Jack Rice; and her beloved daughter, Rebecca Jack. She is survived by her very special friend and companion, Bill Trautman of OKC; sister, Shirley Howard and husband Jack of Salina, Kansas; and her children, Diane Mier and husband David of Edmond, Susan Stewart and husband Warren of Tulsa, Ann Thompson and husband Jack of Edmond, James J. Gable, III of OKC; and grandchildren, John and Mark Phillips, Howard and Hilleri Yeilding, Aaron and Adrianne Jack, Andrew and Mackenzie Thompson, James J. Gable IV and his mother Tammie Gable, and Angela Bizzari; ten great-grandchildren, Andrew, Malachi, Channing, Hannah and Elizabeth Phillips, Amelia and Benjamin Yeilding, Alyssa and Cameron Bizzari, Charlotte Rebecca Keeling (pending arrival); and many nieces, nephews and friends. Joan was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, a member of Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club and Chapter DF of the PEO Sisterhood. She was a big sports fan and especially loved OU athletics. She was a 58-year football season ticket holder and played 18-hole golf regularly. She loved babies and was a longtime nursery volunteer at Westminster. She was most proud of her family who will miss their 'Gommy' dearly. Friends and family will remember her joyous nature, positive outlook and inward and outward beauty. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in her name to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Free to Live Animal Sanctuary. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

I feel so sad learning this news today. She warmed my heart every time she was near and with her Christmas card and little note every year. She always made me feel cared for and loved and still tied to the wonderful bonds of my Oklahoma heritage and family and friends.
She was a very special person as was Becky and knowing them was a privilege and an inspiration. I am forever grateful. With much love and sympathy to all of you especially Dinah, Sudi, Ann & Jim.

We feel very privileged to know and live across from Joan for the last two years, she was the first person to welcome us to the neighborhood. We have stood in the street, discussed golf, the neighborhood, her beautiful yard, our dogs(she loved to say hello to them), the incident with the four wheeler, and life in general. We will miss Joan very much and our condolences go out to all of the family.

Joan and I were lifelong friends and I want the family to know how special she was to me and all of the members of my family. We had a wonderful conversation on October 4 reminiscing about Ellsworth and how soon we could visit. I send love and prayers to her family. Harriet Cloud
