Paul Scruggs Obituary

A Mass of Christian burial for Paul Albert Scruggs will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 900 S. Littler, Edmond, Oklahoma, under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Memorial Road and Kelley. Paul, 75, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at his home following a lengthy illness. Born March 3, 1927 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Palmer Gordon 'P.G.' and Marguerite Bohan Scruggs. He graduated from Sayre High School, where he was known as 'Dusty' because he traveled down the basketball court so fast he stirred up dust. Paul served in WWII in the Philippines with the rank of Staff Sgt. He attended Cameron College, Lawton, Oklahoma and graduated in 1950 from then Oklahoma A & M, Stillwater, Oklahoma, with a B.A. Degree in Marketing. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bettie, and their thur children: Pamela and her husband Jim Blundell, Oklahoma City; John Scruggs, Oklahoma City; Melissa and her husband, Kent Shomber, Edmond; and Mark Scruggs and his wife Leslie, Edmond. His grandchildren: Rebecca and Mike Hayter, Lewisville, TX; Amy and Doug Burleson, Oklahoma City; Betsy Blundell, Orlando, Florida; Jessica Scruggs, Oklahoma City; Matthew Scruggs, Joseph Scruggs, Edmond; and Andrew and Joshua Shomber, Edmond, OkIa. His great- grandchildren: Ryan and Noah Hayter; Mattie, Lily and Gracie Burleson. His sister, Dr. Marguerite Scruggs, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Paul lived a long and varied life, he was a farmer-rancher in Jackson, Tillman, Cotton and Comanche counties, Oklahoma. He served on school boards, church boards and was active in political organizations. He was an auctioneer, a licensed insurance agent, and found his niche in real estate. He was a licensed real estate broker and certified property manager, owning and operating his own company in Oklahoma City for over 30 years, until he retired two years ago. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edmond, Oklahoma. Paul's family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Daniel Woiwode, Dr. Timothy Siler and to Odyssey Health Care.
