Ruth Samuelson Obituary

Ruth Ann Samuelson was born to Esther and William King on August 22, 1922 in Cordell, Oklahoma. She soon would be joined by two sisters, Sara Jo (Jody) and Charlene. Ruth Ann graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and soon met and married the love of her life, Henry George Samuelson, known to all as "Hank". They were blessed with fifty-five years together. Hank and Ruth were the proud parents of three daughters, Teresa Ann, Karen Sue and Nancy Jean and they devoted their love and energy toward raising their family and creating a home warm and generous in spirit and in love. Ruth Ann was born to be a homemaker, cooking, gardening, sewing, raising children and serving her community. Her values of faith, family and hard work identified her and her home was her own work of art. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rosemary Garden Club, Gamma Book Club, the 4th Wednesday Bridge Group, Hospitality Club (President), and as a board member for the Salvation Army. She was also a hospital volunteer, church guild member, and was involved in many school related activities involving her daughters. Ruth Ann left this world on December 1, 2009 and her family is so very grateful for the many years she shared with us. You have well earned your rest, Mom. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her beloved Hank, her parents, sister Jody Vest, brothers-in- law Ted Vest and Samuel Farler, sister-in-law Marian Eason, loving grandsons Brian and Taylor Cook, niece Janet Daughtrey and many dear friends and family. She is survived by her three daughters, Trudy Moore of Houston, Texas, Karen (Henry) Wallis of Oklahoma City and Nancy (John) Cook of Billings, Montana, her sister, Charlene Farler of Dallas, Texas and brother-in-law, Gerald Eason. She was the loving grandmother of nine, Melodie Rayburn, Mike Wallis (Kim), Lisa Wallis, Laura Judd (Jasen), Jason Cook (Robin), Andy Moore (Diana), Matt Moore (Heather) and the late Brian and Taylor (Amber) Cook. She was proud to be the aunt of Jim (Melanie) Eason, Doug (Tish) Eason, Janis (Paul) Young, Diane (Jim) Morgan, Sam (Ute) Farler and Brent (Janey) Farler. Finally, she was honored to be the great grandmother of fourteen, Jennifer, Erin, Kyle, Justin, Nick, Katie, Megan, Abigail, Samantha, Lucas, Owen, Eli, Lauren and Jack. She also had two great great grandchildren, Drake and Olivia. Ruth Ann also left many friends and loved ones who graced her later years. Special thanks go to the incredible staff of Quail Creek Nursing and Rehab Center, who made her last few months on this earth full of love, joy and acceptance. She called them her "kids" and they truly were. They loved, cried and laughed with her, and isn't that what a true family does? Services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Friday, December 4 at 10 a.m., following which she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Hank. Donations may be sent to one's charity of choice, or to the Salvation Army, an organization in which she so believed. Their mission of caring, community and hope was what symbolized our Mother. Go in peace, Mom.

The last time I saw Ruth and Hank was when her (our) Aunt Doris came to Okc.. that's been over 25 years ago. I am Ruth's first cousin. My father was William C. Smith. I truly wish I had kept in touch. We did exchange Christmas cards for a long time. I tried to call after reading of Hank's death but I never was able to reach anyone.
