Sam Speropulos

Sam G. Speropulos departed this life on April 7, 2010 with his loving wife, Jane, devoted grandchildren and loyal cocker spaniel, Sweet Pea, at his side. Sam was born in Chicago on February 1, 1941 and was a fan of dBears, dSox and dCubs. Sam was proud to be a Marine and served our country from 1959-1963. Sam moved to OKC in 1970 and married the love of his life, Jane Benavides, from San Antonio. Sam and Jane operated Lakeshore Deli for the past 16 years, and prior to that they operated Britton City Limits neighborhood pub. Sam was a superb conversationalist, avid reader, and historian. Sam, member of OKC 1st Church of the Nazarene, loved Pastor Jons sermons. He was a good friend to many and took every opportunity to engage friends and family in dialogue. Whether they agreed with Sams point of view or not, Sams lively exchange will be missed by his many friends. Sam is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jane Speropulos; son, Frank Benavides; son-in-law, Ray Roberts; grandsons: David and Justin Dixon, Sam Benavides, Daniel Roberts, Alex Woods, Nick Woods, David Benavides; and granddaughter, Brandy Benavides; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Mary Speropulos; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; 2 daughters, Sofia Roberts and Sylvia Benavides; and son, David L. Benavides. Arrangements: OK Cremation & Mortuary. Memorial in lieu of flowers: OKC 1st Church Zambia Mission, 4400 NW Expwy., OKC 73116, to sponsor Janes mission trip. A celebration of Sams life will be held on Monday, April 12th, at 4:00 at OKC 1st Church of the Nazarene, 4400 NW Expressway.
