SCOTT COSBY Obituary

June 1, 1968 - Jan. 18, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY Scott Owen Cosby was born June 1, 1968, in OKC to Paul & Frances Cosby, and passed away Jan. 18, 2017. Though his life was far too short for those who loved him, it was filled with joy, faith and love. As a preteen, Scott gave his life to Christ and was a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church. He graduated from SE HighSchool in 1986, where he played the sax in band. Scott enjoyed snow skiing in his youth and achieved a blue belt in Tae Kwon Doe. In 1994, he graduated from Oklahoma State with a degree in geography and loved his Cowboys. He worked in the print shop at Eskimo Joe's and tended bar at Mexico Joe's. Scott proudly served the State of Oklahoma as a 20-year veteran of the Dept. of Transportation in charge of pavement condition testing using the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) and the branch's safety program. In 2009, he was recognized with the S.E.E. Award. He was the main organizer of the SEDC held in Catoosa, OK in 2016. Scott loved talking to all kinds of people, young and old. He was a member of Siloam Masonic Lodge and a York Rite Mason. He was a member of the India Shrine Center, where he participated in the Director's Staff and Bowlers Unit. Scott married his great love and BFF, J'Layne McClure, on Dec. 13, 2014, though they adored each other far longer than their anniversary date suggests; they had a wonderful, happy life together. Scott was part of The Oklahoma Comic Creators Group and a talented artist. He loved comics and superheroes. He was a featured published writer for an online news-site, The OKC Edge, and was featured on a podcast called Better Than Fiction talking about his artwork, The Edge and festivals. He self published two mini books, The Love of Comics and Sci-Fi. He wrote for World Wide Drilling and edited for Semens Enterprises. He was a featured writer and contributor to "The Aquaman Cronicles" and a published comic cover artist for Celtic Knights and Rubenette, a comic out of Dublin, Ireland. In addition to J'Layne and his parents, Scott is survived by uncles and aunts, Don and Norma Hacker, Marvin and LaMatha Baker, Don and Ruetta Alexander, Bob and Brenda Steeley, and Pat Baker; mother-in-Law, Jackie Hall; sister-in-law, Jennifer Van Meir; brother-in-law, Jon McClure; nieces and nephews, Morgan, Austin, and Grace Van Meir; Jon Paul, and Becker McClure; many cousins; many, many loving friends; and his beloved cats, The Sundance Kid, Hermione a/k/a "Sparky" and Sibyl Sue. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his uncle, Herschel Baker; and father-in-law, Bob Hall. Services are Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2 p.m. at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the India Shrine Center.

J'Layne ~ so shocked and so saddened to hear of the passing of Scott. I have not seen you in some time, but I always remember the kindness you and Scott showed both Fred and I. Please accept my deepest condolences. You are in my thoughts and prayers and may you find great comfort in your memories and the knowledge that Scott is with his Lord and Savior and know that Fred is there to greet him.

I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I had the pleasure of meeting him because he sounds like he was a super guy. I hope you take comfort in the fact he was a Christian and is with the Lord now. I am looking forward to meeting him in Heaven one day.

I was so sad to hear of Scott's death. I worked a few years with him in Materials but continued to run into him often at ODOT. When I would run into him, he was always so upbeat and cheerful. I moved to another location and didn't see him for a few years but when I did, he was so excited to tell me that he had got married. My heart & prayers go out to his wife. Scott was just a great guy. Earth lost a good man but heaven gained an angel.
