February 5, 1952 - December 7, 2017
TULSA Earlier this month on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day, "a date that will live in infamy," a celebration of the life of Todd Edward Thompson was held at 1st Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, OK. Todd, or Toss as he was known to friends, was born in Oklahoma City to Leo E. & Gloria "Glo" Thompson on Feb. 5, 1952, ultimately graduating in the distinguished 1970 Class at Northwest Classen High School, then followed a predetermined path that led to him to Norman and the halls of The University of Oklahoma. While a student at OU, Todd became a brother in Sigma Nu fraternity and during a mixer with that sorority down the street, Pi Phi, he met, courted and persuaded Mary McClymonds, of Nowata, OK, to sign up as his life's mate. Todd would graduate from OU, as would Mary, with Todd going on to attain a master's degree in environmental science from UT Dallas, followed by his gaining an MBA from the University of Dallas. Todd and Mary began their normal workaday lives after college here in OKC, where their daughter, Libby, was born, preceding her brothers, Ben and Sam, before the family relocated to McKinney, TX. It was there that Todd began his environmental consulting career in earnest while the family settled in for the kids' school years. Nearly 20 years later, an opportunity with the Williams Companies brought Todd and family to Tulsa in 2007, where he renewed old friendships while continuing to forge new ones with his natural vibe of kindness, wit and good humor. Todd was greatly heartened when his mother met his stepfather, James Marr, an outstanding man with a fine family who provided her so much for so many years. Todd was an avid golfer, great fan of Sooners football, having remained a season ticket holder all through his McKinney years, where he so much enjoyed the Rapp's tailgate fiestas, remaining always such a fan of his friends and family, even through his own difficult illness that preceded this tragedy; somehow, he seems kinda irreplaceable. Todd was a religious man, and served as an usher/ greeter for 1st Presbyterian Church on Sundays, after having given over his soul to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, some years previously. Family and friends were everything to Todd, who could range as wide as the situation called for, whether it was taking beloved lil sis, Leann, to Dad's day on the rugged terrain of Stillwater or meeting for his annual guy's golfing trip to Grand Lake, Toss just had a way. Todd was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Thompson and Gloria Thompson Marr; as well as James Marr. Todd is survived by his wife, Mary McClymonds Thompson; his daughter, Libby and husband Justin Lauten; son, Ben and wife Amanda; son, Sam; and grandkids, Bryson and Aubri. Todd was also eagerly awaiting the birth of his second granddaughter, just as he was eagerly enjoying his grandpa payoff that he'd known was coming. He is also survived by countless friends and loved ones who will miss him so. Toss, when you get to Heaven, look up Bucky Sims and Billy Bishop, as they will surely know their way around. The family would like to thank the nursing staffs at OCSRI, St. Francis and the Oklahoma Surgical Hospital, all in Tulsa, who worked for and supported Todd in his efforts to shake the cancer that bedeviled him over these past months. They would also request that donation thoughts for Todd be addressed to the
American Cancer Society or to Reel Recovery.
