NORMAN Graveside services for Troy Raymond Ledbetter will be held Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Okemah, OK. Troy Raymond Ledbetter, a resident of the Norman Veterans Center, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the age of 79. Mr. Ledbetter was born June 3, 1932, as one of twin boys, to Jacob M. and Ruth E. Ledbetter of Nuyaka, Oklahoma, into a family of eleven children.Mr. Ledbetter was a veteran of the Korean War with the United States Army and received a Purple Heart in 1951. After discharge from active duty, he attended school at Oklahoma A&M College in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, graduating with an Electrical Contractors Certificate. His employment was with GRDA for 13 years as a supervisor and started a family in Cushing, Oklahoma. Mr. Ledbetter became a private pilot and then secured a commercial pilot's license. Because of his love for flying, he changed careers and became and Agricultural Arial Applicator, working as a crop duster and owner and operator of Valley Arial Sprayers located in the lower Rio Grande Valley near the Pharr, Texas, area for many years. He then established a home in McAllen, Texas. He then ended his business and flew for other operators in Texas and Oklahoma, retiring at the age of 72. Mr. Ledbetter also enjoyed traveling, playing golf and fishing.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Meadows Ledbetter; four sisters and three brothers.Survivors include his sisters, Lorene Romando of Okemah, Clarisse Smoot of Tulsa, and Mary Ruth Henshaw of Okmulgee; his children: Paula O'Bannion of Carrollton, Texas; Steven Ledbetter of Cushing, Oklahoma; Ruth E. Littlefield of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Mike Meadows of McAllen, Texas; and Carla Meadows of Stillwater, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.He also left behind a close faithful friend, Wanda Rounsavill of Purcell, Oklahoma; and other friends.The family of Mr. Ledbetter would also like to give a special thanks to the great care provided by the doctors, nurses and staff at the Norman Veterans Center, Norman, Oklahoma, and to Valir Hospice. Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, and officiated by the Rev. Steve Treagesser.Online condolences may be made at
