Winnie Sutton Obituary
Winnie Mae Gipson Sutton of Oklahoma City died Sat. July 19, 2003 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in De Berry, TX, on February 14, 1936 to Sylvia Stanford and William Gipson. She was our 'Valentine Girl'. She came to live in Oklahoma City with the Mclvor family. After that, she was with the Family of Carolyn Wright. She was married to Clarence 'Pete' Sutton- the great love of her life, her 'Soul mate' on December 26, 1986. For the past nearly 30 years she has taken care of the Charles A. Vose, Jr. family and has become a much-loved important member of that family. Winnie helped to raise Lisa and Chad Vose from their young childhood. She was their faithful and ever loyal 'Best Friend, Confidante and Teacher'. She was the 'Glue' of the family. She had savvy combined with great wisdom. She traveled with the family and saw the four Vose grandchildren born. She became their beloved 'Mama Winnie'. Winnie was a member of Allen Chapel and sang in their choir for the past several years. Her church family was another very important element in her life. Winnie had a strong faith in God, as her loving father. Winnie was preceded in death by her dear parents, her brothers Elzie Carter and Wm. Gipson Jr. She is survived by her husband Clarence of the home, sister, Johnnie Ruth Wood, Dallas, TX, sister, Josephine Gipson Carter and brother-in-law L. B. Dallas, TX, sister, Ruby GipsonLee brother-in-law Billy Lee Dallas, TX, sister, Maxine Gipson Dallas, TX, brother, Bruce Gipson and sister-in-law Peggy, Dallas, TX, one daughter, Janice White, five grandchildren, Christie Woods of Dallas, TX, Tara White of Dallas, TX, Kenneth Wayne Hamilton of Okla. City, OK., Kerry Hamilton of Dallas, TX, Chad Hamilton of Okla. City, OK, six great-grandchildren, Kiambra, Ashley, Brittnay, Chasity, LaShasity, her 1st great-grandson Tarvrous, a very special niece Vivian Carter Jackson, Dallas, TX, and her dear longtime friend Bob Foster. Her family meant the world to her. A memorial service will be held Fri., July 25, 2003 @ 11:00 a.m., Allen Chapel AME Church with interment Sat. July 26, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., Greenwood Cemetery, Wills Point, TX. Your written memories of Winnie will be cherished and shared by the Vose Family, her immediate family, her church family and especially the choir.
