Larry "Smokey" Dodson, 77, of Crestwood, Kentucky passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. He was born on Jan. 17, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Larry was a man of service, serving on the Oldham County School Board for 18 years. He was passionate about doing what was best for students. In those 18 years, Larry represented the OCSB on the Kentucky School Board Association. He got great joy in traveling to National School Board Association meetings. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Oldham County Schools Arts Center Foundation. Larry was a member of the Beuchel Masonic Lodge #896 and a Kentucky Colonel.
Larry worked for LG&E for 58 years, planning for retirement as a Senior Gas Safety and Technical Training Consultant.
He loved baseball, using his talent as a youth athlete to help others by coaching for North Oldham Little League and serving on their board. Larry was a restaurant aficionado and a member of La Grange Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his son, Derrick Dodson; mother, Mary Workman; and brothers, Jerry and Gary Dodson.
Left to cherish the memory of Larry are his wife, Patti Dodson; son, Jeremy Dodson; daughter, Shannon Dahl (Pete); and five grandchildren.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025 at noon at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 W Jefferson Street in La Grange with burial to follow in Penn Run Cemetery, 8405 Pennsylvania Run Road in Louisville. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the start of the service and Thursday evening from 4-7 p.m.
