Daniel Glassmire Obituary

Daniel F. Glassmire V

COUDERSPORT, Pa. - Daniel F. Glassmire V, 73, of Coudersport, passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025.

Born Dec. 3, 1951, in Pasco, Wash., he was the son of Daniel F. Glassmire, IV and Beatrice Lignian Glassmire. On March 3, 1979, in the Ulysses Free Methodist Church, he married Joy E. Hamilton, who survives.

Known for his keen intellect and dedication to his hometown, Dan graduated from Coudersport High School with the Class of 1969. He continued his academic pursuits at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a dual degree in mathematics and chemistry in 1973.

He briefly began his professional life teaching chemistry at Oswayo Valley High School.

With aspirations for a legal career, Dan attended and graduated from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where his academic commitment was rewarded with the publication of a law review article.

He began his legal career with a brief tenure at the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

After law school, Dan enjoyed a summer traveling around the United States before returning home. He soon met and married the love of his life, Joy Hamilton, and they settled in Coudersport.

Dan first joined John Leete as a partner in 1978. When Mr. Leete was appointed President Judge, Dan invited his longtime friend, Tom Shaffer, to join the firm. Glassmire & Shaffer Law Offices was established in 1988 and provided dedicated legal services to the community for over three decades, until Mr. Shaffer's retirement in 2020.

Dan continued to serve the area through the Daniel F. Glassmire Law Office until the time of his passing. Throughout his career, Dan was committed to defending every individual and believed in "second chances."

Dan was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Sons of the American Revolution and Eulalia Lodge No.342, F&AM. His professional membership was with the Potter County Bar Association and a Life Fellow of the PA Bar Foundation.

In 2023, Dan was honored with "Lawyer of Distinction Excellence" in general practice law, being nominated and selected by the "Lawyers of Distinction," a fraternity of lawyers from all 50 states, as well as abroad.

He supported many community organizations, both professionally and personally.

Dan was an avid reader and listener of music. His favorite artists ranged from Dylan to Ry Cooder to Blind Willie Johnson. However, the Law was both his work and passion.

Surviving besides his wife, Joy, are a daughter, Dr. Andrea E. (Joshua Snook) Glassmire of Bath, Mich.; grandchildren, Jack R. Snook and Lily E. Snook; and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Daniel F. "Danny" Glassmire VI on Feb. 24, 2025.

Dan's passing leaves a great loss for his family, friends and the countless individuals he served throughout his distinguished career.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. noon Saturday (Nov. 29, 2025) at Park United Methodist Church, Coudersport, with funeral services following at noon. Rev. Gregory Rapp will officiate. Burial will be in Homer Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The Daniel F.
