David Legenbauer Obituary

David O. Legenbauer, Loving Husband, Dad, Papa, King, Friend to all and Stranger to none
OLEAN -- David O. Legenbauer, of Olean, passed away, Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Olean General Hospital with loving family by his side, after a short illness.
David was born in Olean on February 23, 1950, the son of the late Bernard and Helen Waskow Legenbauer. On March 19, 1988, in the Town of Olean, he married the former Patricia Poletek, who survives.
After graduating from Olean High School in 1968, David joined the United States Army and served as a surgical tech. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge in Rifle. After his enlistment, David went to work for Dresser Rand, where he retired after 40 years.
David enjoyed the outdoors and was especially fond of hunting, fishing, camping, and riding his motorcycle. He looked forward to his trips to Maine, Massachusetts, and Myrtle Beach, and seeing all his family there. He also looked forward to spending time with his granddaughter, Alyssa Blossom, on the weekends. His daughter, Marsha, was always doing things to spoil him, and he truly looked forward to that. He was a proud member of the Olean VFW, the American Legion of Hinsdale, St. Stephen's Club, and the Pulaski Club.
He was a huge Bills, Yankees, Nascar, and Sabres fan, and some of his happiest times were spent watching those with his favorite niece and nephew, Jennifer and Pat Foster.
David is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; two daughters, Marsha Blossom and Stacey (Bruce) Bartlett; a granddaughter, Alyssa Blossom; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Jim) Hurlburt and Susan (David) Baglione; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Helen, and his twin brother, Dana Legenbauer, and a sister-in-law, Marie Walton
Friends are invited to a graveside military service, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 12:30 pm at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Following the service, the family will celebrate David's life at the VFW 1238 Route 16 S, Olean.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choosing.
Arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean.
