Edith Butchello Obituary

ROCHESTER - Edith A. "Edy" Butchello, of 240 DeGeorge Circle, formerly of Olean, passed away Monday (Nov. 5, 2018) at Unity Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Oct. 1, 1927, in Olean, she was the daughter of Dominic and Maria Mariotti Butchello.

Edy was a 1944 graduate of Olean High School and a 1945 graduate of the Rochester Business Institute. She managed the L'Alcove Restaurant, and then went to work at the Castle Corp., where she retired in 1999.

Edy was a member of St. Bonaventure parish since 1950, and when she was not working for the Castle Corporation or at home with her children, she could be found at the parish. She joined the choir in 1969, and took over as choir director shortly thereafter. She remained an active parishioner and choir member until her early 80s.

She was an avid music lover. Apart from her decades-long involvement in the church choir, she enjoyed attending musical theater, operas and symphonies with friends and family.

Edy enjoyed the challenge of crossword and wordsearch puzzles and enthusiastically completed them almost daily. She was also very involved in her children and grandchildren's lives, and despite living two hours away from family for many years, made it a point to be present for sporting events, concerts and other activities.

Surviving are five children, Karen (Bruce) Peterson, Tina (Brett Streightiff) Hamilton, Kim (Scott) Odle, Niki Moronta and Don Van Dixon; five grandchildren, Brittni Swetland, JR Moronta, Kori Hamilton, Katie Hamilton and Daniel Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Joey Monachino and Vinny Monachino; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lee Casini; a brother, Guerino "Butch" Butchello; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Bill Kinley.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 17, 2018) at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Bonaventure Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com.
