STEAMBURG - Ellen R. John, 78, of Steamburg, died Wednesday morning (April 7, 2021) at the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo.
Born Nov. 11, 1942, in Gowanda, she was the daughter of the late Rexford and Irma Kettle Button. She was married to Winston P. John, who predeceased her in 1965.
She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Wolf Clan.
Ellen was a graduate of Gowanda High School, Class of 1960, and earned her associate's degree from Erie Community College.
She had been employed with the Seneca Nation Health Department in medical records for over 41 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing scat during the holidays and going on family trips. She liked going to the game room and was an avid reader. She loved the outdoors and being at camp and had recently started gardening.
Surviving are a daughter, Angela John of Steamburg; two granddaughters, Teresa Redeye and Ariel (Peter) John, both of Salamanca; three grandsons, Winston John and John W. Redeye, both of Salamanca, and Sammy Zamora of San Antonio, Texas; and a brother, Kevin Rogers of Oklahoma.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy John; a son, Geoffrey John; and a brother, Douglas Rogers.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today (April 9, 2021) at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday (April 10, 2021) in the funeral home, with Rev. Marvin Abrams, of the Jimersontown Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg.
