Frederick E. 'Fred' Dannheim
WELLSVILLE - Frederick E. "Fred" Dannheim, 86, was called home Wednesday (July 10, 2024), at Wellsville Manor Care, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Dannheim was born Nov. 19, 1938, in Wellsville, to Edward and Beatrice (Ellsworth) Dannheim. He was the stepson of Walter Babbit.
Fred was a 1959 graduate of Wellsville Central School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years before joining the Air Force for an additional four years. Later, he served in the Army Reserves, where he retired after 24 years. While serving in the reserves, Fred also worked at Dresser-Rand as a tool dresser, retiring after more than 40 years.
On July 4, 1973, he married the love of his life, Sally "Sara" Anne Reisman Case, who survives.
Fred was a busy guy. In addition to his military service, he was a member of the Wellsville American Legion Post #702 where he was a faithful member of the American Legion Honor Guard until his failing health. He was a long-time member of the Duke Hose Fire Company, where he also served as Fire Chief. He was a member of the Scio Lions Club, where he served as President as well as participating in the many activities associated with the club. Fred earned two awards from Meals on Wheels as a valued volunteer with over 20 years of service. Additionally, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville as well as the Trinity Lutheran Men's Club.
Even with all of this, Fred never forgot to have fun. He loved the activities and friends he had in the Sunshine Club in Scio and took great pleasure in golfing and bowling. He was adventurous and learned to roller skate later in life. Fred belonged to the Grand Squares with his wife Sara. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan.
Fred truly delighted in dancing and listening to his son who played for Zoar. He had many great times with friends over games of Euchre and "May I."
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Fred is survived by four sons, Monty (Robin) Case and Brian (Beth) Case, both of Wellsville, Jeffery (Julie) Dannheim of Sanford, N.C. and Wayne Dannheim of North Carolina; daughters, Christina (Ron) Wightman of Wellsville, Pam (Mike) Kammer of Marine City, Mich., Michele (Calvin) Crandall of Raleigh, N.C., and Julie (Dale) Black of Marine City, Mich.; one brother, William Babbitt of Florida; several step-siblings, nieces and nephews; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Fred was predeceased by his stepfather, Walter Babbit; one brother, David Dannheim; and a sister, Nancy Miller.
There will be a time of visitation from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday (July 16, 2024) at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, Wellsville, and from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday (July 17, 2024) at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Wellsville. Funeral service with full military honors will be held immediately following the visitation at noon with Rev. Dr. Eric Ash officiating.
