Helen C. "Honey" Acker

Helen Acker Obituary

SHARON, Pa. - Helen C. Acker, formerly of Sharon, passed away Saturday (May 21, 2016) in Canton, N.Y. after an extended illness. She was 86.
Known to all simply as "Honey," she was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Kenmore, N.Y., the only child of Edward H. and Edith S. Cartwright. She graduated from Wilson College, Chambersburg, in 1951. On April 14, 1951, she married Albert E. Acker of Sharon, later judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Mercer County. Judge Acker died Jan. 7, 1998. They built their residence on the family Yahres Farm next to Buhl Park in 1958, and Honey lived there until 2015.
Honey served on the Sharon school board for 14 years and the Penn State University - Shenango Campus Advisory Board. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, College Club of Sharon and Sharon Country Club. She was the driving force behind the construction of the Acker Gazebo in Buhl Park, which bordered her home.
Surviving are a daughter Mary Holland "Holly" Sheeser, and her husband, Scott, of Olean, N.Y.; four sons, all attorneys, David, and his wife, Linda, of Potsdam, N.Y., Peter, and his wife, Patricia, of Mercer, Alan, and his wife, Anne, of Coudersport, Pa., and Andrew, and his wife, Molly, of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, John, Aaron, Jacob, Leah, Andrew, Maggie, George, Sam and Fred Acker and Mollie and Arch Irvin; two great-grandsons, and a stepbrother, John W. Bush, and his wife, Patricia, of Waukesha, Wis.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Thomas Mitchell Acker.
Burial with interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Buhl Farm Park, 715 Hazen Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.
