Joan Cauvel Obituary

DERRICK CITY, Pa. - Joan M. Cauvel, 93, of Fullerton Road, Derrick City, passed away Friday (Feb. 5 2021) at her residence, surrounded by her family.

Born on Dec. 23, 1927, in Angelica, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Louis Albert and Beulah Annetta Norton McHenry. On Feb. 3, 1951, in Knapp Creek, N.Y., she married Lawrence C. Cauvel Jr., who preceded her in death, on June 28, 2019.

She graduated from Olean (N.Y.) High School in 1947.

Joan was employed for 42 years at Olean Wholesale Cooperative, from where she retired from the Human Resources Department, as the executive secretary.

She enjoyed hosting get togethers, family reunions and parties. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, cross-stitch and baking pies.

Joan was a member of the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church for 70 years. She led Sunday school and youth groups, and was a den mother for Boy Scouts. After retirement, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society office in Bradford.

She was a member of the Landmark Society and Genealogy Club, Duke Center Lions Club and Christian Women's Association.

Surviving are two sons, Bruce E. (Robin) Cauvel of Derrick City and Gary (Julie) Cauvel, of Marshburg; five grandchildren, Kelley (Brian) Clark, Laura (Patrick) Hickey McCartney, Melissa (Jacob) Canaan, Matthew Cauvel and Michelle (Steven) Cavagnaro; a sister, Mary Beth (John) Habbersaw of Rochester, N.Y.; a brother, David B. (Sherry) McHenry, of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence of 68 years; a sister, Judith Conner; and a brother, James McHenry.

Friends are invited to livestream the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 9, 2021). The funeral services will be held with Rev. Paula Grucza, pastor of the White Chapel Balm Charge of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park.
