Joan Kula Obituary

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Joan Kula, 90, passed away on Jan. 6, 2018, in J.F.K. Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1927, in Olean, N.Y., she was the daughter of William and Martha Geise. She married Walter L. Kula on Feb. 26, 1949, in Olean. They were married just shy of 50 years.

Joan attended Olean High School, graduated from Bolivar Central School and went on to Alfred University.

Joan was active in ladies golf at St. Bonaventure Golf Course and the Lady Knights at the Knights of Columbus in Allegany, N.Y. She also volunteered with Mended Hearts organization at J.F.K. Hospital in West Palm Beach.

She traveled extensively with her husband in the 70s and 80s. Of late, her greatest enjoyments were going to Bingo, casinos, the theater and spending time with her family and very special friends, Mike Schott, Jody Harrell and Rita Paquin.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Ed) Sealy of Jamestown, N.Y. and Judith (Rick) Crowley of Olean; sons, Stephen (Marylou) Kula of Lake Worth, Fla., and Paul Kula of Olean; granddaughters, Kristina (Brandon) Landas of Leesburg, Va., Angela Kula of Allegany, Andrea (Shane) Thorn of East Aurora, N.Y., Denise Sealy of St. Petersburg, Julie Burch of Rochester, N.Y.; grandsons, Timothy Baker of Olean and Art, Dennis and David Sealy of Jamestown; and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and James Landas.

She was predeceased by her husband; three brothers, Merle, Raymond and Paul Geise; two sisters, Irene Hare and Mary Sobral; her daughter-in-law, Deb Kula; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Anne Baker.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Joan's life at 11 a.m. Jan. 27, 2018, at St. Bonaventure Parish, Allegany. Father James Vacco will officiate a Mass of Christian Burial.

Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Parish, 95 E. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706 or to a charity of donor's choice.

I will always remember Aunt Joanne. As a teenager I visited your home and everyone made me feel welcome. You have a wonderful family. One of my most cherished childhood memories is lying on the floor reading blueprints with your dad. Our deepest sympathies.
