To me Johnny was the nicest person I think I have ever known. Every Christmas, when I was young, we would have the family gathering and Johnny would welcome us kids and made us feel good. Christmas was also his birthday which added to the festivities.
Every time we visited as I got older, nothing ever changed as he would always give us a warm welcome. I remember the day we buried my parents at St Bonaventure, which happened to be Cathy and my anniversary, of all days, and a very somber day. After the burial we stayed on and spent the night at Johnny and Jackie's house, and later in the evening we went out for dessert and had so many laughs, just what we needed. With Jackie's sense of humor and Johnny as the set up person, we just had a great time.
You were all such great kids to Johnny in making sure he got out to Oregon twice a year and as Jimmy would tell me that your Father just loved going out there. Not many people traveled as much as Johnny did while in their nineties and all of you made it possible.
Sorry for your loss.
