Margaret "'Peg'" Frederic
Margaret Frederic Obituary
OLEAN - Margaret "Peg" Ried Frederic passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2026, after a long and brave battle with cancer. She died at home with her husband, her two children and siblings by her side.
Peg was born Margaret Mary Ried in Olean, the daughter of Charles and Bernadette Ried.
She grew up on Henley Street, where she loved sports and working in her dad's grocery store and was a 1971 graduate of Archbishop Walsh High. She went on to earn a bachelors degree from SUNY Oswego in1975.
Peg epitomized the women of her generation-strong, independent, well educated.
She met her future husband Dana while working at Price Chopper in Syracuse in 1978. In 1981, they moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where they raised their two children, Eric and Lauren.
She operated a bookkeeping business for over 30 years and had some clients for almost the entire time. One of her passions was coaching track and field for Special Olympics for over 25 years.
Peg loved to hike, had an amazing ear and love of music, was a good athlete and huge Buffalo Bills fan. She enjoyed a cold beer in the summer while grilling, was as direct as she was disarming and had a quiet, wry sense of humor and a penchant for always putting others first.
Her memory and love live on with her husband, Dana; children, Eric and Lauren; four grandchildren, Mae, Jesse, Ried and Ada; and her eight wonderful remaing brothers and sisters, Sandy, Joan, David, Jim, Kathy, Betsy, Greg and Chris.
She was predeceased by her "favorite sister," Barbie.

I am smiling as I remember the "old Henley Street neighborhood" and the Ried family down the street with whom I spent so many good times growing up. I have such fond memories of your parents and all of you. I remember Peggy and Barbie, now passed on, and all of you other "Ried kids".
