Margaret Hamer Obituary
Marge was born Nov. 6, 1920, in Niagara Falls. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Lula Swarts Knapp. She graduated from Julia Richmond School in New York City. She was the last remaining sibling of 10 children.
Mrs. Hamer worked many years for her brother, Jim, at the Elm Street restaurant in Franklinville. After marrying her husband, Stewart, they shared in the operation of dairy farming in Bliss and on the Five Mile Road in Allegany. She enjoyed her garden, reading and puzzles. She was a member of the Five Mile Baptist Church and volunteered in many capacities at the church over the years. Marge always showed kindness to everyone.
The couple had two children who survive, Nancy (Ray) Survil and Leslie (Patricia) Hamer, both of Allegany; five grandchildren, Jeremy Survil, Stephanie Hockensmith, Cory Survil, Rebecca Baker and Brandon Hamer; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her five brothers; Kenneth Knapp, William Knapp, James Knapp, Herbert Knapp, Lester Knapp; and four sisters, Pearl Baker, Gladys Doty, Doris Preston, and Ruth Swift.
Friends may gather with the family from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 11, 2017) at the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St., Franklinville, where her funeral and committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Pastor Adam Stein of the Creekside Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Franklinville. Memorials may be made to the Five Mile Baptist Church, 3624 Five Mile Rd., Allegany, NY 14706.
