Sr. Marie Vincent Chiaravalle

ALLEGANY - Sister Marie Vincent Chiaravalle passed away Thursday (Nov. 25, 2021) at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.

She was born March 21, 1929, in Niagara Falls, to Salvatore and Amelia Amendola Chiaravalle.

She entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on Feb. 2, 1953, was received into the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1953 and professed her final vows on Aug. 16, 1960.

Committed to the Franciscan charism, Sister lived for over 68 years as a devoted member of the Allegany Franciscan Sisters, sharing her life in community and ministry.

She attended public elementary, middle and high schools in Niagara Falls, graduating in 1948. She attended St. Elizabeth Teacher College, Allegany, Fordham University in New York City and graduated from St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, with a bachelor of science degree in education. She later went on to attend St. Clare School of Radiology, New York City, and earned certification in x-ray technology.

Sr. Marie Vincent taught in congregational schools in New York state, New Jersey and Mississippi for 15 years, after which she worked as an x-ray technician, assistant instructor and clinical supervisor of the School of Radiology at St. Clare Hospital, New York City.

In 1990, following her service in health care ministry, Marie Vincent served as administrator of Villa Francisco, Ft. Myers, Fla., and later as local minister of St. Elizabeth Convent, Tampa, Fla.

She retired in 2006 in Fort Myers, where she had previously ministered, and in 2014 Sr. Marie Vincent was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, where she fully enjoyed retirement.

She is predeceased by her parents, Salvatore and Amelia; a sister, Adeliene; three brothers, Martin, Anthony and Vincent; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A wake service is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. today (Nov. 29, 2021) in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2021) in the chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
