Romayne Burr-Truesdell Obituary

FRIENDSHIP - Romayne A. Burr-Treusdell, of 5686 Route 17, passed away Friday (July 25, 2025) in the arms of her family, at Olean General Hospital after, a short illness.

Romayne said her usual long goodbye in the last 10 days of her life surrounded by loved ones. She lived a long, full, joyful life. Romayne fought to the end to stay with us. She amazed her nurses at her strength when her body was so weak, and they fell in love with her and shared our grief with us.

Romayne was born April 28, 1932, at her home in Caneadea to Harland Williard and Nellie Mae Cole Hale. She married Burton J. Burr "Zeke" in 1950, and they were married for 61 years. On April 23, 2016, she married Richard "Dick" Treusdell at Belfast United Methodist Church, who survives.

Romayne attended a one-room schoolhouse next to her home for first and second grade. She graduated from Belfast Central School in 1950.

She worked at Motorola and as a home health aide.

Romayne loved our family gatherings very much, especially at the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to music and spending time with her many animals over the years, especially her pet pig Wall-E.

Romayne is survived by her loving husband, Richard "Dick" Treusdell; eight children, Susan (Harry) Klein, Barbara (Harry) Burton, Constance (Charles) Wixon, Lori (Michael Thompson) Burr, Aaron (Francine) Burr, Christopher (Janet) Burr, Michele (Steven Haettich) Burr and Ruth (Scott) Dembinski; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Janet (Dave) Bissell; and many nieces and nephews. Romayne is also survived by her stepchildren, Audrey (Terry) Rexford, Joni (Larry) Bunk, Rick Treusdell, Wendy (Rick) Travis, Tom (Lorraine) Treusdell, Nancy (Blair) Burdick, Jennifer (Robert) Merriam, Melissa (David) Heary, Kelly (Jedadiah) Miller, Shawna Treusdell and Amanda (Jason) Seiwell; as well as several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Romayne is predeceased by her first husband, Burton J. Burr; son, Timothy Burr; her parents; granddaughter, Tobi O'Duffy; three sisters, Betty Stafford, Peggy Bissell and Helen Noone; and one brother, Wayne Hale.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. today (July 29, 2025) and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday (July 30, 2025) at the Caneadea United Methodist Church, 8932 Route 19 Caneadea, at which time a funeral service will be held. The Rev. Robert J. Mackmer and Rev. Josh Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in Canedea Cemetery. A luncheon will be held after the burial at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the Belfast Free Methodist Church, 11 Chestnut St., Belfast, NY 14711; or to the Caneadea United Methodist Church, 8932 Route 19 Caneadea, NY 14717.

So sorry to hear this. Romayne and I go back a long way. In the late 1940s, she was in high school when I took piano lessons from Zeke and carried "love notes" back and forth from each of them. They were both a joy to know. I will never forget her always present smile and those sweet dimples. Rest in Peace.

I remember meeting Roymane a few years ago at my job. She came in and i said you look so much like my mother in-law. Well come to find out they were cousins! Condolence to the family . Very sorry for your loss.
