Sally A. Mattys

ALLEGANY - Sally A. Mattys, 81, of North Seventh Street, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2024) at Olean General Hospital, after a recent illness.

Born Sept. 24, 1943, in Olean, she was the daughter of Teresa Dieteman. On May 9, 1964, at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, she married David F. Mattys, who predeceased her Aug. 21, 2017.

Sally attended St. Bonaventure Parochial School and was a graduate of Allegany Central School.

During her working years she was employed at St. Bonaventure Parochial School and later as a custodian for the Olean Elk's Lodge until her retirement.

She enjoyed gardening and selling her produce from her home, and also loved taking regular trips to the casino. She had a huge affection for cats, and they were always a part of her home.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Olean General Hospital's ICU for their compassionate care in Sally's last days.

She is survived by three children, Kimberly (Joseph) Dincher of Odenton, Md., Joseph (Amy) Mattys of Olean and David Mattys of Allegany; seven grandchildren, Joseph (Dawn) Dincher, Jennifer (Matthew) Robinson, Benjamin (Ashley) Dincher, Amanda Mattys, Nicole Mattys, Aarika Mattys and Jolee Mattys; eight great-grandchildren, Anthony, Megan, Mila, Madison, Makenna, Zachary, Hailey and Charlotte; one brother, Ken Dieteman of Allegany; one sister, Kathy (Dave) Volz of Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Dave, she was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Dieteman on May 24, 2022.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 9, 2024) in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Pastor Christopher Emminger will officiate.
