Shirley Fluent Obituary
OLEAN --- Shirley A. Fluent, 71, of Olean, NY, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.
Born March 8, 1953 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Shirley Stull Leder.
She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1971. She also graduated from Jamestown Community College where she received her LPN in nursing.
Shirley had been employed as a nurse with Home Health Care, Olean, NY for several years and also as a hospice nurse, retiring in 2005.
She enjoyed spending time with loved ones and will be remembered for her creativity and her sweet gentle spirit. She was a compassionate, loving person who was adored by her family. She was an avid reader, scrabble, and dominos player who loved her pets, Gidget and Charlie. Shirley created beautiful wood-burned art that her family will treasure. She wrote beautifully and was gifted in quilling and alcohol ink art. She was the anchor in our family who stood firm in support of those she loved.
Surviving are: a daughter, Jody (Michael) Taborski, Crown-Point, IN; two sons, Bradley Fluent, Scott Fluent, both of Jamestown, NY; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald (Lorna) Leder, Kill Buck, NY, Christopher Leder, Missoula, MT; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, infant Mary Leder and beloved Rosemary Shadden, and her ex-husband, Chuck Fluent.
Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 11am – 1pm, at which time funeral services will be held.
Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY.
