William Brown Obituary

MACHIAS - William F. Brown, of Roszyk Hill Road, passed away on Sunday (Nov. 16, 2025) at Olean General Hospital.

William was born May 18, 1939, in Machias, and was the son of Frank P. and Elise G. Scott Brown. On Jan. 23, 1960, in Franklinville, he married Arvona Card, who predeceased him Oct. 23, 2016.

William worked for the railroad for over 40 years.

He was the little league football coach for Tri Town Trojans and the Machias Baseball team. William was a member of the American Legion Drill Team in Franklinville, a member of the Machias American Legion and VFW.

William enjoyed playing guitar, watching sports, playing baseball, making crafts and playing word games.

William is survived by three children, Monica "Sue" (Bruce) Kessler, Martin W. (Maria) Brown and Mary L. (Donald) Laird; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Justin, Alex, Derrek, Dallas, Ashton and Devin; five great-grandchildren, Jack, Kenadee, Vera, Hunter and Gracelyn; and a brother, Robert (Isabel) Brown.

Along with his loving wife, Arvona, William was predeceased by his parents; a granddaughter, Alicia; a great-grandson, Jake; and a sister, Janet Horning.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday (Nov. 22, 2025). Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Machias. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Babbitt & Easton Funeral Home, 7 N. Main St. Franklinville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Machias Fire Department, 9548 Main St., Machias, NY 14101.
